Bible History Guide to Rome

Rome may not be the first place you think of when it comes to the sites of history from the bible. The Romans were renowned for being harsh and strong rulers and they made their way into bible history when they occupied territories such as Israel. The gospels share snippets about the Roman oppression of the Jewish people and later some of the apostles make their way to Rome as missionaries.
Interestingly, Rome today is an epicentre for Catholicism with the Vatican City located here.

Climbing the Duomo, Florence

Florence from above is a sea of terracotta surrounded by distant green hills. It’s an amazing sight if you are willing to put in a bit of effort to witness it! The highest lookout point in the centre of the city is the Cupola, or Duomo of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. There are no elevators in this 600-year-old cathedral, it takes 463 steps of leg-power to get to the top.

Lunch at Central Food Market, Florence

Bruschetta at Central Food Market

If there is any food market worth visiting, this is the one! Made up of two levels, Florence’s Mercato Centrale (or Mercato di San Lorenzo) hosts an array of fresh produce stalls on the ground level while the upper level is pretty much the best fresh food court you may ever come across. The menu items here are as fresh and gourmet as you would imagine from a food market and come with a surprisingly cheap price tag.

An Overview of Cinque Terre

When we first arrived in Cinque Terre we were overwhelmed with the beauty of the area and authenticity of the towns! After visiting much more built up places on our travels, it was a breath of fresh air to have no chain stores, only local cuisine and not even any cars on the roads. I’m so glad the authenticity of Cinque Terre has been preserved, despite the rapid increase in the amount of tourists over the last 10 years or so.
